If you are currently using the Grid View Chrome extension in Google Meet, Information Technology Services (ITS) recommends that you follow the steps below to remove and re-add the Chrome extension as a better source that is more routinely updating the extension is now available. You may encounter issues if you continue to use the currently installed Chrome extension.

To remove and re-add Grid view:

  1. Click this link: original source for the Grid View Chrome extension
  2. If it says Remove from Chrome in the top right, click that. If it says Add to Chrome, no action is needed.
  3. Click this link: new source for the Grid View Chrome extension
  4. In the top right, click Add to Chrome and then click Add extension to confirm.
  5. If you are in a Google Meet when you complete the above steps, please leave and rejoin the Google Meet so the changes take effect.

NOTE: Google’s native tiled layout now displays up to 16 participants so Grid View is only necessary if you attend meetings larger than that. To learn more about Grid View, see the Google Meet Grid View Quick Reference Guide.

Zoom continues to make rapid changes to their software to improve the security of the program.  A critical change will go in effect on May 30th and requires every Zoom user (Basic and Pro) to upgrade to the latest version of the Zoom client. Go here to download the software https://zoom.us/download. Select the Zoom Client for Meetings download button. If you have not upgraded by the 30th, Zoom will force the upgrade the next time you launch the program or try to join a meeting.

ITS is planning to perform maintenance on servers hosting shared network drives (PERSONAL, SHARED, MEDIA, SCRATCH, etc) on Thursday 05/21/20 between 4:00am and 7:30am. There will be short outages for the above network drives and printing while servers are rebooted to complete the maintenance. Please do not update files stored on the network file servers during these time periods.

Denison Information Technology Services (ITS) will be releasing security patches and critical updates to Windows computers the evening of Tuesday, May 19, 2020. You will be notified when updates are available via a Windows prompt that states, “You need some updates. Please select this message to install.

Note: To install updates during the COVID-19 pandemic from off campus, you must be connected to Pulse Secure VPN. If you are on campus,  you do not need to connect to Pulse Secure VPN to access updates. Additionally, ITS would like to remind you that we do not automatically update your machine. It is your responsibility to run updates by clicking the message above.

ITS recommends you install the updates at your earliest convenience. Updates will take about 30 minutes to install, including a reboot to complete the process.

This is not a message from ITS or from any member of our Denison community.

We encourage individuals to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:

  • Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails and be wary of email attachments
  • Use trusted sources
  • Do not reveal personal or financial information in email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information

The types of emails you may receive to get your attention to click a malicious link or open an attachment include:

  • Fake school emails that provide information about a particular Denison group (e.g.; students, faculty, etc.)
  • Emails requesting information from you

If you feel you have received a phishing email please report it as phishing in Gmail. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 740-587-6395 or servicedesk@denison.edu.

Between 4:00 and 7:00 AM on Tuesday 5/19/20, ITS will perform routine maintenance on the Login infrastructure. During this maintenance period, there will be a brief 1-2 minute window when users will not be able to login to BigRedID based services such as Denison Apps, MyDenison, NoteBowl, and other services.

A power outage on campus has caused the network to go down in several buildings across campus. Facilities is coming on-site to look into the outage further. An update will be posted when available.

Denison Information Technology Services (ITS) will be performing Banner security patches and module updates (all environments) on Saturday, May 23, 2020 from 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM EDT that will impact access to Banner and related systems. Users will not be able to access these systems during this time.

The following Banner security patches and module updates (all environments) will be affected:

  • Banner Admin Pages
  • Banner Self-Service
  • Xtender
  • Jaggaer (e-procurement)
  • MyDenison content that relies on Banner data
