Thursday, October 27 6 a.m. – 7 a.m. the VPN service will be updated. Remote Access services via the VPN will be disabled until the update is complete. Pulse Secure client will be updated to version 5.1.10. This latest version is required for MacOS Sierra.

This coming Thursday 10/27/16 between 5-7am ITS will be removing the “denison” wireless network campus wide. Please take this time to move your computer to “eduroam” if you are still using “denison” as a wireless network. “eduroam” is our secure wireless network offered throughout campus. If your device will not work on “eduroam” then you can use “Denison Guest” for wireless access.

The port process scheduled for today has been delayed until tomorrow. Those individuals and departments scheduled to have their Denison phone numbers migrated to Dialpad today are confirmed to port tomorrow. As a reminder, you will receive an email notification when your number is ported.

Service Affected: Managed DNS

Event cause:
On Friday October 21, 2016 at approximately 11:10 UTC, Dyn came under attack by a large Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack against our Managed DNS infrastructure in the US-East region. Customers affected may have seen regional resolution failures in US-East and intermittent spikes in latency globally. Dyn’s engineers were able to successfully mitigate the attack at approximately 13:20 UTC, and shortly after, the attack subsided. At roughly 15:50 UTC a second DDoS attack began against the Managed DNS platform. This attack was distributed in a more global fashion. Affected customers may have seen intermittent resolution issues as well as increased global latency. At approximately 17:00 UTC, our engineers were again able to mitigate the attack and service was restored.

Update #3:  4:30 PM – The services and web sties are becoming available.  (PeopleAdmin (employment.denison.edu) and the Qualtrics Survey System (denison.qualtrics.com are currently available)

Update #2:  Major Internet service providers are reporting a 2nd round of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDOS) attacks this afternoon.  ITS is monitoring the situation and will provide additional updates.

Some off-campus services and web sites may not be available.  (Examples:  PeopleAdmin (employment.denison.edu) and the Qualtrics Survey System (denison.qualtrics.com)

Update:

Our internet service provider, (OAR-NET) indicated earlier today that several major Internet service providers were being impacted by a large scale Denial-of-Service attack on the East Coast.  Those attacks have been resolved; however, the residual impacts to many services are still being seen.

Update #3: 4:30PM – Opus is back up and ready for use.

Update #2:  4 PM – Technical Services staff have been continuously working with our vendors to find an appropriate resolution.

Update #1:  11:30 AM – Technical Services has identified the reasons for the outage to the FOCUS service and is actively working on a solution.

We were informed that as of 11.30 am this morning, the issue seems to have resolved.

The rectifier at the switch tripped and a reset resolved the issue. All phones should now be functional.

We were informed this morning that the entire PBX (old Telephone system) seems to be down. During this period, all phone lines to the old phones will be dead (no dial tone).  However, Dialpad is functional and can be used to make and receive phone calls without any issues.

We will update Netnotes as soon as we have more information.

Update 10/18/16:  11:00 AM – The issues with the left navigation menus not displaying properly have been resolved.

Update 10/18/16: 10:30 AM Some users are reporting issues in seeing the left navigation menus in Campus Resources.  ITS is working on a fix for this issue.

The Campus Calendar, found by going to “events.denison.edu” or through MyDenison by clicking the “Go to Calendar” or “Book an Event” links under CAMPUS CALENDAR on the Home tab, currently displays an error message. ITS is working to identify and correct the issue and anticipates that the service will be restored on Thursday October 13. Updates will be posted here.
