Did you know Data Privacy Day (DPD) is held on Jan. 28 annually? DPD creates awareness about #privacy and educates everyone about how their info may be collected and the benefits and risks of sharing personal information.

Here’s a few important tips to keep your personal information safe:

Share With Care

  • What you post can last a lifetime: Before posting online think about how it might be perceived now and in the future and who might see it.
  • Own your online presence: Set the privacy and security settings on web services and devices to your comfort level for information sharing. It’s ok to limit how and with whom you share information.
  • Be aware of what’s being shared: Be aware that when you share a post, picture or video online, you may also be revealing information about others. Be thoughtful when and how you share information about others.
Post only about others as you have them post about you: The golden rule applies online as well.

Personal Information Is Like Money. Value It. Protect It.

  • Think before you act: Be wary of communications that implore you to act immediately, offer something that sounds too good to be true or ask for personal information.
  • Get two steps ahead: Switch on two-step verification or multi-factor authentication wherever offered to prevent unauthorized access.

To take fuller advantage of the applications offered by Google in the Denison Apps environment, ITS, under consultation with the ITC governance committee, has enabled the following additional Google Apps for use with your BigRedID:

  • Google Classroom
  • Google Hangouts
  • Google Analytics*
  • Google+*
  • YouTube*

Because this change offers your account access to additional services that are not covered by Denison’s Google Higher Education Agreement (denoted by an * above), you may receive the Google Consumer Terms of Service and Privacy Agreement when you next access your account. If you have concerns, we encourage you to read the agreements and their associated links to find out more. These agreements only apply to use of the additional services, the “core apps” continue to be covered by Denison’s Higher Education Agreement and use does not alter the relationship or agreement Denison has with Google.

To learn more and for links to help resources for these apps, please visit the Denison Apps Information page in MyDenison under Campus Resources -> Information Technology Services.

If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.

While Blackboard (Bb) courses are automatically created for all courses, they are initially set to unavailable. If you plan to use your Bb course, you must make it available so that students will see it. To do this, within your course go to Control Panel, then Customization, then Properties. Scroll down if necessary to locate 3. Set Availability and click “Yes” and then “Submit”. The message saying “Course is unavailable to students” should no longer appear in the top left by the Home icon.

Update 1/13/15 7:30AM:

Verified this morning, all services provided to Windows computers by Zenworks have been restored.  Login times should be back to normal, and login on a computer you have not used previously should work.  If you see an issue with either, please reboot the computer.

Update 1/12/15 3:00PM:

ITS continues to work with the vendor to restore the Zenworks service. Emergency database maintenance has been scheduled from 5:30-7:30PM tonight with a target of having full functionality restored by 7:30AM Tues. 1/13/15. PLEASE CONTINUE following the workaround outlined below to log in to your Windows computer until service is restored.

Original Post:

Due to the Zenworks outage, when you log in to your Windows computer at this time, a 2nd login window will appear which will not accept your credentials. Clicking the “cancel” button on this 2nd login will allow the Windows login to continue, with full access to your network drives and the Internet.

Note: this will only work on Windows computers you have previously logged into. You will be unable to log in to a Windows computer you have not previously logged into until the Zenworks service is restored.

Attempts to restore the service are still in progress with vendor support.

Update:

Please see related post for updates.

Original Post:

Zenworks services are currently off-line.  This results in a long delay for Windows logins, upwords of 2 minutes.

Attempting to login to a Windows machine you have not logged into before will result in a 2nd login prompt, which will fail no matter what you enter.

ITS is working with the Zenworks vendor to bring services back online.
