Work continues on the effort to resolve any side effects of the “webby” migration this morning. At this point the only known issue is the appearance of question marks or other “bad character” symbol by web browsers present on some personal and research websites.

Update 4/23/15 8:00AM:

“Webby” content and services have been migrated to new hardware and editing access is once again available. Some minor issues from the migration remain which ITS is currently investigating. We appreciate your patience while we work to restore all “webby” functionality. Current known issues:

Original Post:

ITS will be performing maintenance to migrate services hosted on “webby” to updated hardware. During this time editing access to “webby” will be unavailable and all hosted sites will be offline, including:

  • personal sites (personal.denison.edu),
  • faculty research and collaboration sites, and
  • hosted web applications (Expanded Course Descriptions, Chemistry Stockroom, Slayter Desk Tools, etc…)

This maintenance will not affect how “webby” users access their content or affect their editing capabilities.

Additionally, access to Denison Apps via apps.denison.edu will be temporarily unavailable. Please use email.denison.edu during the maintenance window.

On Tuesday, 4/21/15, a software upgrade will be administered to Denison’s wireless network between 5-7am. This maintenance will cause a brief campuswide outage followed by localized intermittent outages.

Update: Maintenance is complete, new logins to BigRedID services are successfully created.

ITS will be performing maintenance that will cause a brief outage indicated by being unable to create new logins to BigRedID services such as Denison Apps, MyDenison, and Blackboard. This maintenance will complete the recovery from the unplanned outage Thursday 4/9/15.

ITS is planning to install latest updates on Novell OES servers hosting shared network drives (PERSONAL, SHARED, MEDIA, SCRATCH, etc) on Thursday, 4/16/15 between 4:00am and 7:30am.  As these updates are being applied, there will be short outages for the above network drives and printing while servers are updated and rebooted to complete installation.

Update 4/9/15 11:50 – We continue to work to check these services and diagnose the failure. The status on the services previously listed:

  • Print Release – restored as of 9:00 AM
  • Network Services – normal function resumed as of 11:20 AM
  • EMS calendaring, Investments Website, Denison Journals, Projection Services, Lab Stats, ListServ – should be restored as of 11:00 AM
  • Email List Server (non Google email lists) restored as of 11:40 AM

Multiple services are currently unavailable due to an infrastructure failure. ITS personnel are working to restore the affected services:

  • Print Release Services
  • EMS and Virtual EMS (space reservation system)
  • Investments Website
  • Denison Journals
  • Projection Services (Extron Controllers)
  • Network Services (some redundant services are currently offline)
  • Lab Stats Monitoring Tools

At approximately 2AM this morning a system component required for BigRedID logins went offline. The cause is unknown but results in an error message when logging into services such as MyDenison, Denison Apps, BlackBoard, Campus Calendar, OrgSync, etc…

NOTE: Existing Denison Apps sessions will continue to function but new logins are currently unavailable.

Attempts to bring the failed component back online have thus far been unsuccessful and further ITS resources are required. We appreciate your patience.
