ITS has been alerted by Career Exploration & Development (CE&D) that several students have received emails that state “__ company has received your resume from Career Exploration & Development” and ask for information. These emails are NOT legitimate. CE&D does not send student resumes to companies. These are a “phishing” attempt, trying to lure the recipient into yielding personal information that can be used for identity theft or other purposes. Please DO NOT REPLY to these emails.
TIP: The FROM email address can often (but not always) help you identify when an email is from someone other than who it states it is from. Sometimes it is very obvious (eg. the email says it is from Bank of America but the email address is “fredsmith@yahoo.com“). Other times you need to look more closely as the spammer/phisher will try to get closer to a legitimate looking email (eg. bankofamerica@something.com). To learn more about identifying and dealing with phishing emails, please see https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/75061?hl=en
