Banner and Self Service are currently available but will be unavailable from 12:15 to approximately 12:45PM today for emergency maintenance related to the earlier outage. During this time Internet-native Banner, Self Service, any MyDenison modules that connect to Self Service (for instance, Time Reporting), the MyDenison Campus Directory, and the eProcurement connection to Banner for PO-related functions will be unavailable. This post will be updated again as soon as the emergency maintenance is complete and all Banner-related services are back in service.

Banner is currently down. This affects Internet-native Banner and Self Service as well as any areas of MyDenison that connect to Self Service (for instance, Time Reporting or Time Approval). Administrative Computing is working to restore this service and it should be available by 11 a.m.

There was a highly critical security update release for Drupal on Wednesday Mar. 28th. We were able to update and test this release in our Test environment and approve it for production in an accelerated timeline due to the severity of the vulnerability. These updates will be published Thursday morning at 6:00 am.

There were also a few other Drupal modules with security updates that are included in this release. As well as some minor fixes to our custom modules and theming. We’ve got some Big News for MyDenison users! Next week we’re pushing a major update to the MyDenison website. Just a heads up, it will be down during this time, but you should still be able to get to Denison Apps like Inbox, Calendar, etc. as well as Notebowl and Self-Service Banner directly.

This update is mostly technology based and shouldn’t change the way you use or work with MyDenison. But because this is changing the technology stack and underlying framework there maybe some small hiccups after launch. So please help us help you by sending any issues you find to me, Jon Stevens via email stevensj@denison.edu and Dialpad if it’s an emergency, or as always please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu for support. I promise we’ll work through any bugs and issues as quickly as we can.

Here are the features/fixes coming with this update:

  • You can copy/paste any url in MyDenison and it will work! Of course this does assume to person you’re sending the link to can log into MyDenison and has access to the page. MyDenison is still behind our Single Sign-on and Duo for security.
  • Back and Forward browser buttons work throughout the site. No more clicking on the back button and getting lost or ending up back on the landing page.
  • We’re using fonts approved by Denison Universities Communications department. To help align Denison branding on campus.
  • We’ve also made font sizes bigger for better readability.
  • There are a lot of general style tweaks (spacing, coloring, etc.) throughout the app, this is part of an effort to not only consolidate the code we work with but also make the “look and feel” across the app more consistent.
  • Announcements have been overhauled. On the homepage you’ll still see the announcements meant for you, but now you can easily get to “more announcements” and see what everyone else on campus can see.
  • Some sections have been improved to not refresh your whole page when interacting with it, like Student Grades or Faculty Schedule.
  • New release notes! At the bottom of the page there is a link to our release notes, where you can read about the latest changes, similar to what you’re reading now. This is to help us be more transparent with our updates so you as a community can be involved and know what’s changed.
  • User roles are being updated at login, previously they were imported overnight, this should make role changes happen faster.

Hopefully these updates excite you, and again they should just be making the things you already do on MyDenison easier and better. As always please let me know if you have any questions or find anything not working as expected after the release and we’ll get it taken care of as quickly as we can.

Between 7:00 and 7:30 am, ITS will be performing an update to the Login Server web applications. This update includes only cosmetic changes specifically an update to the Denison Logo. This is meant to bring the logo in line with the latest styleguide from Denison University Communications department. There should be no interruption in service during the maintenance. The Banner maintenance and upgrades have been completed.

If you encounter any issues with Banner or Self-Service Banner (SSB) after these upgrades, please contact the Help Desk @ x6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu. The Help Desk will reply as soon as possible during regular business hours (see www.denison.edu/its/helpdesk for hours).


ITS will be performing Banner (INB) and Self-Service Banner (SSB) maintenance, this Saturday, 02/03 from 6:00 AM to Noon. Banner, Self Service and all related systems such as Xtender, Jaggaer (formerly SciQuest) e-procurement, Cognos, and portions of MyDenison that rely on Banner data will be unavailable during this maintenance window.

When the maintenance work is completed, this post will be updated with additional information.

The Campus Calendar and News sections on the Home page of MyDenison have swapped spots. This was done to make the Campus Calendar more of a focal point for campus activities.  We have been gathering feedback in an effort to make MyDenison THE place for information and communication on campus. Be on the lookout for more surveys and changes coming soon!  Your feedback is valued.

Between 6:30 and 7:30 AM, ITS will perform an update to MyDenison. During this maintenance period users may not be able to access MyDenison or it may not function as expected. This update includes:

  • fixes browser url copy/paste issue, users can now copy the url for Campus Resources pages
  • add debounce call to optimize the iframe resize function for Campus Resources content
  • general code clean up, mostly whitespace and jshint issues
