UPDATED: Please Report Any Issues Calling External Numbers from Denison Phones

Update 2/17/2022:

This issue is believed to be resolved. If you receive an out-of-service message when calling a non-Denison number from a Denison phone and it works from a cell phone, please report the issue to the ITS Service Desk at servicedesk@denison.edu and include the Denison number you called from and the 10-digit number that you called.

Details: Denison’s phone vendor identified that an issue was occurring with an upstream carrier rejecting calls from Denison numbers incorrectly. The upstream vendor made a change and initial testing shows that numbers that were previously yielding an out-of-service error from Denison phones are no longer doing so.

ITS has received several reports of issues calling non-Denison numbers from Denison phones. In the reports received, dialing the external number from a Denison phone with a 1 followed by the full 10-digit number results in an out-of-service error while dialing the same number from a cell phone works fine. If you experience this issue, please email the ITS Service Desk at servicedesk@denison.edu to report it. Please include:

  • The Denison number you called from.
  • The 10-digit number you called.
  • The date/time of the call.
  • If known: the carrier for the number you called.
