A change made over the weekend should resolve any lingering issues with delayed email delivery that you may have experienced in the last two weeks.
Blackboard login issue overnight Sunday 2/19/12
Due to an issue with the Blackboard login service, some students may have been unable to log in to Blackboard between 9pm Sunday 2/19 and 7am Monday 2/20. The problem has been corrected. If you experience a problem logging in to Blackboard, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.
Firewall issue
From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. today there was an issue with the Denison firewall mistakenly blocking email messages with attachments. The issue has been corrected. Anyone attempting to send an email with attachments to a Denison.edu address would have been notified of the delivery failure.
Email Delivery Delay
As more individuals on campus migrate to Denison Apps powered by Google, ITS must also migrate back-end email services from our legacy servers, to Google. Until all community members have migrated, we must continue to run an infrastructure that supports the previous email platform. This transition caused an unforeseen issue on a Denison-owned server, which resulted in the email delivery delays observed this week. These delays impacted individuals regardless of which email service they were using (Denison Apps or the legacy system). We have corrected the issue and will continue to work to minimize any service disruptions during this transition period.
Users reporting inability to login to myDenison and BlackBoard
The HelpDesk has been notified that users are experiencing login problems with myDenison and BlackBoard in particular. Technical Services will be addressing this issue and we will post an update as soon as access to these services are restored. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Server Maintenance
This morning during the standard maintenance window system updates will be applied. This will cause a brief outage and during this time these items will be unavailable:
- Admissions and Financial Aid Applications
- ITS Help Desk Tools
- Password change forms
- Guest Access Utility
- National Clearinghouse Enrollment Verification
If you experience an issue after the updates are applied please contact the ITS Help Desk and open a ticket.
Maintenance completed at 7:20am.
Message Delivery Delay
Due to an influx of large messages and to a failure in anti-virus on one of the servers, the is a delay of approximately 30 minutes on messages through that server. The problem has been corrected and the delay will shorten as the number of messages waiting to be delivered is reduced.
Email Server Refusing Messages
One of Denison’s outgoing email servers was refusing email this evening. The problem existed from about 4:30pm until 10:15pm. The other outgoing servers continued to deliver mail normally during this period. There were about 130 messages that were stuck on the failed server. Those messages were released and delivered normally after the problem was corrected.
UPDATE – Feb 2, 2012 – After researching a non-delivery complaint, we found that were several thousand messages from the afternoon of Jan 31st in a waiting state on a server. These messages have been released and should be delivered throughout the day.
