Over the weekend, news broke regarding a significant security flaw in the Apple operating systems (both iOS for mobile devices and MacOS for systems). While it is unclear how long the issue has existed, there is no doubt that it is an easily exploited flaw that presents a great risk to users of any Apple device.
Updates have now been issued for iOS and MacOS. ITS is in the process of updating all the MacOS devices on campus. Users must accept the update directly from Apple for mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, etc). A reboot may be required. Please take a moment to be sure that you have updated your Apple devices, both university owned and personal.
Thank you for your help with this very important update.

Wireless maintenance will occur on 2/27/14 between 5:00AM and 7:00AM to upgrade software for wireless equipment in Academic and Administrative areas. This will also effect Chamberlin Hall, Monomoy House, Shannon and Bancroft. The maintenance is expected to cause intermittent wireless network outages in these locations.

Update (7:00am): The update was successful. Cognos is up and running, and scheduled reports now work as expected.

Original Post:

Attention Cognos users:

Cognos will be unavailable for approximately 30 minutes early Wednesday morning (6:00 – 6:30am), so that ITS can apply an important software update. This update should address the issues some departments have had running scheduled reports.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

On 2/20/14, during the ITS maintenance window of 5:00AM to 7:00AM, work will be completed on the wireless network in administrative and academic areas. There will also be work completed on the wired network in Talbot and the Mitchell Center. Temporary outages may occur from 5:00AM to 7:00AM.

Update 3:  As mentioned last week. the Cognos / ODS composite tables and reporting views were out of sync with the ODS staging tables.  To fix the problem, we performed a re-load to the composite tables from the staging tables. Last weekend Finance, HR, and AR were re-loaded. This morning, Tuesday, 2/18, General was re-loaded. Following is the schedule for the remaining re-loads:

Tue., 2/18 at 7pm: Student
Wed. 2/19 at 7pm: Advancement
Thu., 2/20 at 7pm: Financial Aid

Update 2:  Further Cognos / ODS maintenance is required for the following areas: Finance, HR and Accounts Receivable

ITS will begin the  re-load maintenance process with Finance beginning this evening, (Friday – 2-14-14) at 7 PM, followed by HR and Accounts Receivable.  These re-load processes are expected to run for 24 hours.

Please note that all daily Cognos /ODS re-fresh processes will be suspended until the completion of the re-load maintenance.

Update 1: Despite taking longer than anticipated, as of 10:15 AM, the Cognos / ODS reporting tables were reconciled and the report data has been through two re-fresh cycles.

ITS has been working through the issues surrounding missing Banner extract data within the Cognos/ODS reporting environment.  As of 3:30 PM all of the Banner extracts to the Cognos / ODS reporting environment have been identified and are currently being addressed.  ITS will complete a full re-fresh of the Cognos / ODS reporting data beginning this evening and will perform the normal daily data re-fresh tomorrow morning during the ITS maintenance window and before regular business hours.

As with any system maintenance, if you should experience any Cognos / ODS reporting issues after these updates, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.
