Google Meet Update: Recording Feature No Longer Generally Available

Within Google Meet, most faculty, staff, and students will no longer see an option to record their Meets. The recording option, previously found at the top of the More Options menu, was removed by Google as a planned rollback of a premium feature offered for free to Denison and other Google Workspace for Education customers to ease the transition to remote learning.

If you need to record a video-conference meeting, ITS recommends using Zoom, which offers recording capability to the host and co-hosts of a meeting. Participants can also record if the host individually assigns that capability to one or more participants within the meeting. To learn more about Zoom at Denison, see the MyDenison Zoom page.

If you have a special need to use Google Meet for meetings that need to be recorded, Denison has a small number of Google Workspace for Education “Plus” licenses which provide that capability. Please contact the ITS Service Desk at servicedesk@denison.edu or 740-587-6395 to request Google Meet recording capability. Please also contact the ITS Service Desk with any questions.
