ITS is working to diagnose and correct Mac login issues that have been reported both on-campus and off-campus. If you experience an issue logging in to your Mac, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.

Late last week and again early this week a number of email messages sent to Denison mailing lists (for example, DU_FacStaff) appeared with *** UNCHECKED *** at the front of the email subject. Please disregard the notation – these are legitimate Denison email messages.
This notation occurred because of a failure of the virus scanning software on the Denison server that processes listserv messages and indicated the message had not been checked for viruses. The problem has been corrected and should not recur.

Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows downloads for faculty/staff home use are now available again. Please report any issues to the ITS Help Desk.

Due to a license supply issue, faculty and staff are currently not able to download Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows for use on a home computer from denison.onthehub.com.  Students are not affected by this issue.  ITS is working with the vendor to replenish the license supply this week.  If you would like to be notified when downloads are once again available, please email the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@denison.edu.

ITS has checked with individuals reporting continuing issues logging in and at this point all have logged in successfully.  Please contact the ITS Help Desk with any continuing issues.

ITS has confirmed problems accessing Denison Apps mail (apps.denison.edu) this AM.  This appears to be a problem on Google’s side – attempts to go to gmail.com also fail.

This appears to affect only Mail. Other components of Denison Apps such as Drive, Calendar, Groups, and Sites are available and can be accessed at their direct URLs:

Email can be sent and received via email clients such as a Gmail/email app on a smartphone or tablet and Apple Mail on a Mac.

ITS has confirmed that there are issues logging into apps.denison.edu and, if successful logging in, there are issues with server timeouts when trying to send mail.  We are investigating and will post updates here as soon as they are available.

Update 7/5 7:00PM:

All planned work is completed and services have been restored with the exception of an outstanding issue with FTP output for Focus reports (see separate NetNotes post).  If you experience any issues, please report them to the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@denison.edu or 740-587-6395. All non-system outage issues will be addressed on Monday AM.

Update 7/4 5:35pm: Oracle upgrades were successful and all services are back online for the evening.

Original Post:

ITS staff will be working over the holiday break (July 4th and July 5th) applying important updates to network equipment and application services. Access to any/all network services may be sporadic and limited in nature. The college is also officially closed.

Thursday July 4, 5am-5pm:

All Banner-related and Oracle-based services, including MyDenison, Self-Service, Xtender, Cognos, Focus, Smartcall, and the online directory will be unavailable while Oracle databases that serve these applications are upgraded.

Friday July 5, 6am-8pm:

Due to the electrical work being conducted across campus by Facilities Services, all services listed above are being taken offline and will be unavailable. Network connectivity will be sporadic.

ITS will be performing updates on data center equipment that will affect remote VPN access, the denison.edu website, and possibly other network services. We anticipate only a 30-minute outage between the hours of 7am and noon due to this work. However, given the electrical work being conducted around campus please remember that your connectivity may still be impeded.

Please check back for updates on this maintenance.

Due to a power issue, wireless network connectivity is not currently available in the Mitchell track area or in Bancroft and Shannon houses. ITS and Physical Facilities are working on the problem. An update will be posted here when service is restored.
