On Thursday, May 1, 2014 between 6 AM and 7 AM – ITS will apply updates and patches to the Banner Human Resources module.

 The expected downtime associated with the updates will be approximately 30 minutes.
As with any system upgrades or maintenance, if you should experience any issues with Banner after this update, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.

All browsers that connect to Banner INB will require an update to the Java component associated with the browser that you use.  For most Banner INB users, this update will be automatic and will not require any user intervention – however, beginning Friday morning, (4/25) some Banner INB users may be prompted to update this Java browser component when logging into Banner INB.

Technical Details:

Oracle has updated the JAVA JRE from v7.51 to v7.55

ITS will be making changes to the campus firewalls between 5AM and 6:30AM on April 17, 2014. During this time there will be brief interruptions to Internet traffic from on-campus and off-campus access to on-campus resources, such as MyDenison.

Update: As of 4 PM, all Banner and related services are available.

On Saturday 3/22, 5:00 AM – 3:00 PM, several upgrades to the Banner system will  take place.  Please note:  access to Banner will be unavailable during this upgrade work.

Update (7:00am): The update was successful. Cognos is up and running, and scheduled reports now work as expected.

Attention Cognos users:

Cognos will be unavailable for approximately 30 minutes early Wednesday morning (6:00 – 6:30am), so that ITS can apply an important software update. This update should address the issues some departments have had running scheduled reports.

Update 3:  As mentioned last week. the Cognos / ODS composite tables and reporting views were out of sync with the ODS staging tables.  To fix the problem, we performed a re-load to the composite tables from the staging tables. Last weekend Finance, HR, and AR were re-loaded. This morning, Tuesday, 2/18, General was re-loaded. Following is the schedule for the remaining re-loads:

Tue., 2/18 at 7pm: Student
Wed. 2/19 at 7pm: Advancement
Thu., 2/20 at 7pm: Financial Aid

 

Update 2:  Further Cognos / ODS maintenance is required for the following areas: Finance, HR and Accounts Receivable

ITS will begin the  re-load maintenance process with Finance beginning this evening, (Friday – 2-14-14) at 7 PM, followed by HR and Accounts Receivable.  These re-load processes are expected to run for 24 hours.

Please note that all daily Cognos /ODS re-fresh processes will be suspended until the completion of the re-load maintenance.

 

Update 1: Despite taking longer than anticipated, as of 10:15 AM, the Cognos / ODS reporting tables were reconciled and the report data has been through two re-fresh cycles.

ITS has been working through the issues surrounding missing Banner extract data within the Cognos/ODS reporting environment.  As of 3:30 PM all of the Banner extracts to the Cognos / ODS reporting environment have been identified and are currently being addressed.  ITS will complete a full re-fresh of the Cognos / ODS reporting data beginning this evening and will perform the normal daily data re-fresh tomorrow morning during the ITS maintenance window and before regular business hours.

iModules, the website service that hosts our DenisonEverywhere alumni pages  has experienced service disruptions throughout the day.  The iModules company reported earlier in the day: “We continue to experience effects of the cyber attack that began this morning and is affecting U.S.-hosted Encompass sites. Despite intermittent availability, outages continue.”

ITS has located and applied fixes to the small number of issues that arose after the Banner system upgrade this past weekend.  ITS is continuing to work with the Banner vendor, ellucian, to investigate why these unexpected errors occurred.

As a result of the Banner system maintenance work that took place this past weekend, several Banner users have notified ITS about various issues they have encountered this morning/afternoon.  ITS is working with with the Banner vendor, ellucian to assist us in fixing these issues.  Please note, you may encounter specific issues when using Banner, Banner extracts and with some Cognos/ODS reporting functionality.
