Denison’s Internet link was down this morning from about 7:05am until 7:50. This would have affected access to Denison Apps, and other external sites.
Banner, Self-Service, Cognos, Xtender, Focus, and Online Directory Outage
The Banner environment will undergo routine maintenance on Tuesday, August 7, between 5am and 8:30am. During this time Banner, Self-Service, Cognos, Xtender, Focus, and the online directory will be unavailable. The production systems will be restored to operation first, then the test systems, with the goal of all systems available by 8:30am.
7:40am Banner production services have been restored.
Denison Apps, MyDenison, Freestyle, other services briefly unavailable August 7 between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m.
Several Denison-hosted websites and services will be unavailable for a brief outage between 6:30 and 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 7 for database server maintenance. These services include:
- Denison Apps (Web interface only)
- MyDenison
- Freestyle
- DU Forums
- Admissions Web Scheduling
- Denison Online Journals
- The Denison Museum
- Student Employment
- OrgSync
- Symplicty
- Denison Wiki
If you are unable to access any of these services during this time period, please wait a few minutes and try again.
Note: Many services, such as Denison Apps, will still be available during this brief window, if you are already logged in.

The services Smartcall, Extensis, Luminis, Zenworks, Web Help Desk and VMware manager will be unavailable on Thursday morning, July 26, between 6 and 8:30AM. During this time they will moved to a new server.

The Cognos/ODS server (dahlia) is being migrated to a new server on July 20, 2012 between 6:00AM and 9:30AM due to hardware malfunction. These services will be unavailable during this time period.
Beware: Another Email Scam – Do Not Respond to “Denison News”
The email from “info centre<info@denison.edu>” with a subject of “Denison news” is a scam. Please do not click on the link (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFB…) in the message, it is not from Denison.
If you are using Denison Apps Mail, please open the message and click the down arrow beside the Reply button. You will see a selection marked “Report Phishing” in the menu that appears. Please select that in order to report the phishing attack to Google to improve the identification and blocking of future phishing attacks. Please note, this option is only available in the web (Gmail) interface for Denison Apps, it is not available if you are using Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or another client to access your Denison Apps email.
Please delete and DO NOT RESPOND to this or any emails that request computer account or other personal information. They are an attempt to steal, at minimum, your email or other computer account, at maximum, your identity.
Again, this a fake email and should be reported to Google (if using Denison Apps mail) and deleted. If you replied to it in any fashion, please immediately visit www.denison.edu/its and use the “Change Your Email Password Now” link in the Password Change area (bottom right corner) to change your email password. The email from “Denison University <News@denison.edu>” with a subject of “News update!” is a scam. Please do not click on the link (www.survsoft.com) in the message, it is not from the ITS Helpdesk.
Please delete and DO NOT RESPOND to this or any emails that request computer account or other personal information. They are an attempt to steal, at minimum, your email or other computer account, at maximum, your identity.
Again, this a fake email and should be deleted. If you replied to it in any fashion, please contact the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@denison.edu or 740-587-6395 for advice on steps to take as a victim of a phishing attack.
Beware Webmail scam
Many of us found a message in our email which provided a link to an updated Denison webmail page. The image shows that the link takes you to a site that will harvest your email username and password.

Intermittent Blackboard Issues – Monday 6/4/12
Update 6/6/12: ITS has not received any further reports of Blackboard issues and believes the problem has been corrected. If you experience any problems with Blackboard, please report them to the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.
