Information Technology Services (ITS) has released the latest versions of R and R Studio to all Denison lab computers.

The latest versions are as follows:

  • R Studio – 1.2.5033
  • R – 3.6.2

Information Technology Services (ITS) is in the process testing upcoming updates. During testing, an erroneous email went to some Denison community members about a key request. A sample email is below:

“Your Key/Access Request was received and has been processed.  If this request was for card access, you should now be able to use your ID card to open that door.  If this request was for a key, please stop by the Accounting Office on the 3rd Floor of Doane Hall to pick up your key after 2pm today or anytime after today.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email: idcardsandkeys@denison.edu.”

Please disregard this email, and we apologize for causing any confusion. If you have questions/concerns, please contact the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@denison.edu or 740-587-6395.

Denison Information Technology Services (ITS) will be releasing security patches and critical updates to Windows computers the evening of 12/2/2019.  Users will be notified when updates are available via a Windows prompt that states, “You need some updates. Please select this message to install.”

ITS recommends users install the updates at their earliest convenience. Updates will take about 30 minutes to install, including a reboot to complete the process.

If you experience any issues or have any questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.

Between 5:00 and 7:00 AM on Tue 12/3/19, ITS will perform routine maintenance on the Login infrastructure. During this maintenance period, there will be a brief 1-2 minute window when users will not be able to login to BigRedID based services such as Denison Apps, MyDenison, NoteBowl, and other services.

If you experience login issues with BigRedID based services after this time, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-639

As part of strengthening cybersecurity practices, Information Technology Services (ITS) must retire legacy access methods in order to keep your data safe. Beginning December 1, 2019, you will need to login to the VPN prior to accessing and updating your personal website content from off campus. This will not affect how visitors outside of Denison view any of your content.

To access the VPN, please download and install the Pulse Secure software available by choosing Remote Access from the My Apps drop down in MyDenison.

If you have questions/concerns or need any assistance, please contact the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@denison.edu or 740-587-6395.

Planned system maintenance was completed. Please report any issues to the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu (see www.denison.edu/its/helpdesk for hours).

RESOLVED:

Denison’s e-Procurement partner, Jaggaer, is functioning and available.

For questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.

Original Post:

Denison’s e-Procurement partner, Jaggaer, identified a performance issue where users might see connectivity errors or general slowness. They are working to resolve this issue. Updates will be posted as they become available.

For questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 740-587-6395 or helpdesk@denison.edu.

Update 11/1/2019:

ITS recommends that users install the security update and let the update install in its entirety. Please do not force shutdown or turn on the device during this time unless it lasts longer than 15 minutes.

Please note: users do not need to wipe their computers and start fresh in order to run this update.  This is ONLY the case when a user interrupts the security update.

Original Post 10/31/2019:

There have been reports with Apple’s latest macOS Mojave security update (Apple Security Update 2019-001) causing the local storage volume to become corrupt if users interrupt the update process. If the update process is interrupted, the device could become corrupted and render the user unable to login, as well as unable to retrieve any files.

During the update process the device may appear to shutdown, but is in fact completing the update. Please do not force shutdown or turn on the device during this time unless it lasts longer than 15 minutes with nothing appearing on the screen. The only known fix at this time is to completely wipe the machine and re-install the operating system. ITS strongly recommends that you have your system and data backed up with one of Denison’s recommended file storage and backup tools before you initiate the security update.

Apple has been notified of the issue and we are working closely with them to reach a resolution.

It is important to apply this security patch to ensure your computer remains current and secure. Please plan a time to complete the update where you will not need immediate access to your machine (e.g.; after hours, during a meeting, etc.).

If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@denison.edu or 740-587-6395.
